I agree: doing consciously what we are doing right now is an indispensable means of fixing the spirit and soul in the Real.
Can this be done “permanently”? Yes, but not in such a way that the need ever passes for a continued renewal of the effort required. “Done”, after all, implies “no longer needing to do”, and such a state is impossible, according to a wide variety of spiritual authorities.
On the other hand, it is possible—with the help of God’s grace, of course—always to be fulfilling our calling to “do” (see Romans 12:2), and thus always to be newly entering into a state of completion. This is what St Gregory of Nyssa meant by what he called the epektasis.
